 Q. How can I get Champions in a Pedigree to display in red like other pedigree programs do?
A. SeaJay is primarily an information management and analysis program. Providing special effects such as this is really a part of a different discipline; that of Document Composition. There are a number of good Word Processing, Artwork, and Publishing programs available that can accomplish this and many other effects. This is often called personalizing or customizing pedigrees. Through the use of one of these, many effects can be added to a pedigree. Adding Kennel logos, borders, backgrounds, shading, and photos is commonly done. You may do this by saving a SeaJay Pedigree to a File and then customizing it using your favorite word processing, publishing or artwork program. An example of this created by Microsoft Publisher may be seen by clicking here. Click here to see an example created by Microsoft Word.

  Q. How can I delete dogs from the Database?
A. Deleting dogs from the Database is something that needs to be approached carefully since, improperly done, it can invalidate Pedigrees and Show Results. A command to perform safe deletions is now available in SeaJay versions 3.7 and later which is available for download in the downloads area of this site.

  Q. How can I move SeaJay from one hard disk to another?
A. SeaJay can be moved from one hard disk to another or to a different location on the same disk using a two-step procedure. First, the contents of the SeaJay Folder must be copied to the new location. Second, all shortcuts to SeaJay must be updated to point to the new location.

If, for example, you wished to move SeaJay from its default location on the C: drive to the D: drive you could use the following procedure.

  1. Start the Windows Explorer (holding down the Windows key and pressing the “E” key is a shortcut to this).

  2. Navigate to the default SeaJay Folder by clicking the + sign in front of the C: drive, then clicking on the + sign in front of the “Program Files” Folder, and then clicking on the + sign in front of the “SeaJay Software” Folder. This will expose the “SeaJay” Folder.

  3. Next, highlight the “SeaJay” folder by clicking on the word “SeaJay”.

  4. Right click on the word “SeaJay” and click on the “Cut” command in the menu that will drop down at this point.

  5. Highlight the D: drive by clicking on its name.

  6. Right click and click on the “Paste” command in the menu that will drop down at this point.

The SeaJay Folder and all its contents will be moved to the D: drive.

Next, the SeaJay shortcuts will need to be updated. This is done by performing the following procedure.

  1. Click the “Start” button, and then highlight the “Settings” Command, click the “Taskbar & Start Menu” button to bring up the “Taskbar Properties” menu.

  2. Click the “Start Menu Programs” tab and then the “Advanced” button.

  3. In the right panel of the resulting display(the one titled “Contents of ‘Start Menu’”), double-click on the word “Programs”.

  4. Right click on the word “SeaJay” and then on the “Properties” command in the resulting pop up menu.

  5. In the “SeaJay Properties” window, click the “Shortcut” tab. The resulting window will contain two text boxes, the “Target:” and “Start in:” boxes, both of whose contents need to be changed from “C:\Program Files\SeaJay Software\SeaJay” to “D:\SeaJay”.

This will correct the shortcut in your Start Programs menu.

If you have also created a Shortcut to SeaJay on your Desktop, this will also need to be corrected. You can do this by going to the SeaJay icon on the Desktop and repeating Steps 4 and 5 above.
